탈식민주의적 관점은 “현재의 비대칭적인 글로벌 관계를 유지하는 인식론, 존재, 권력이라는 핵심적인 문제들을 다루는 것”을 목표로 합니다. 저는 두 가지 점을 지적하고자 합니다. 첫째, 이데올로기, 연구, 제도, 실천의 체계로서의 개발은 목욕물입니다. 따라서 우리는 발전을 비판하고 해체하는 것을 넘어 아예 없애버리는 것을 진지하게 고려해야 합니다. 개발학을 붙잡고 싶은 욕망과 싸워야 하고, 비록 그것이 우리의 전문성과 개인적인 정체성, 지위, 심지어 급여를 주는 것일지라도 이 학문 전통과의 탯줄을 끊어내야 합니다. 둘째, 이 이야기에서 아기(목욕물보다 더 중요한 것), 생각, 욕망과 에너지는 글로벌 정의와 연대, 배상, 과거와 현재의 잘못을 바로잡고 “다양한 세계 속 좋은 삶”에 기여하는 것들이란 점입니다.
The decolonial one, then, aims to “engage with the crucial issues of epistemology, being, and power that maintain the present asymmetrical global relations”. In what follows I will make two points: first, that development as a system of ideologies, studies, institutions and practices is the bathwater. As such we need to find ways to go beyond critiquing and deconstructing it, and seriously considering getting rid of it. I will argue that we need to fight the desire to hold on to Development Studies, cut the umbilical cord with this discipline, even if it is the one that has given us our professional and personal identities, our status, including our pay cheques; and second, that the baby in this story, the ideas, desires and energies worth keeping and fighting for, are those pertaining to global justice, solidarity and reparations, as in righting past and present wrongs, and contribute to the “good life in the pluriverse”, i.e. a world in which many worlds are possible.
